Our English language school in Edinburgh is centrally located in the New Town and is housed in a traditional Georgian building.
Our partner language school, Oxford International, has 12 classrooms available in Edinburgh for English language lessons for adults, all equipped with state-of-the-art teaching resources.
The English courses for adults have a maximum of 14 students, although experience shows that the average class size is 8 students. This enables us to guarantee you high-quality teaching with excellent learning outcomes.
From the age of 10, your children can take part in our Teen Courses or Teen Courses + Activities. The focus here is on active English learning combined with fun. These courses take place in Edinburgh at the school for young learners, which is located approximately a 25-minute walk from our adult language school. To ensure your family can make the most of your time together, the programme is coordinated across both school buildings.

Edinburgh enchants its visitors. Edinburgh Castle and the city’s many historic buildings make Edinburgh a top destination for families.
Edinburgh, with its ancient walls and narrow streets, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was here, amongst other things, that Harry Potter was created. The countless festivals delight locals and visitors alike. Edinburgh, with a population of around 490,000, is situated on numerous hills and is bordered to the east by the Firth of Forth. Everything is within easy walking distance, and there are plenty of activities for children, as well as parks and playgrounds. Edinburgh Zoo is one of the most popular in the UK. Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh is the British Queen’s official residence in Scotland, with a magnificent park – great for letting the children run about.
Right next to the fascinating Forth Rail Bridge near Edinburgh, you can watch seals, sharks and many other marine creatures from Deep Sea World, the world’s longest underwater tunnel. The gigantic tank was built in an old quarry. From the café, you can watch divers feeding the sharks.
The Museum of Childhood is brimming with toys from all over the world, and the adults’ favourite phrase is… “I used to have one of those too.”
Another highlight is Wings on Fishmarket Close. A Scotsman and a Canadian have joined forces here to provide Edinburgh with ‘proper’ chicken wings. The selection of sauces and side dishes is incredible!

English lessons are generally designed for international students and are primarily aimed at improving practical communication in everyday life, as well as in academic and professional contexts.
How lessons typically take place
- Placement by language level: At the start, your English will be assessed and you’ll be placed in a suitable level. This means you’ll learn alongside other students who are at roughly the same level.
- Plenty of communication: An important part of the course is active speaking. You’ll work with other learners, have conversations and practise situations that arise in everyday life.
- All key language skills: Depending on the course, particular emphasis is placed on speaking, listening, reading and writing, supplemented by grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation.

A typical day of lessons might look something like this:
Morning:
You cover a topic, learn new vocabulary and revise a grammatical structure. You then practise what you’ve learnt in pair or group exercises.
Later in the lesson:
You might work on a listening exercise, then discuss it with other students and practise expressing your opinion in English.
Outside lessons:
You can put what you’ve learnt into practice straight away during activities or in everyday life in Edinburgh. This in particular creates plenty of opportunities to speak English spontaneously.
