Images Impressions of Exeter, England

Impressions of Exeter, England

Exeter and its surrounding area are among the most charming parts of England. Descriptions of the region and its people can be found in many books, as Exeter captivates visitors with its vibrant diversity. It is very British and steeped in tradition, yet at the same time international and youthful. Exeter has a charm all of its own – come and see for yourself!

Exeter offers you the perfect blend of a modern, vibrant student city and rich historical diversity. The variety is just right, and the city is well connected in terms of transport links for day trips beyond Exeter. This starts right at the railway station, which is situated just a stone’s throw from our easy language school.

From there, after your language lessons, you can easily set off on half-day or full-day excursions, or simply take a short stroll into the city centre. The idyllic city centre has something for everyone. History buffs will find plenty to explore at Exeter’s two cathedrals. Exeter’s own cathedral is particularly famous for its roof structure; the foundation stone was laid as early as 1050. And then there’s Salisbury, built a little later, around 1227, but absolutely magnificent!

Exeter’s pretty streets are perfect for a leisurely spot of shopping, whilst the charming cafés invite you to take a little break. Had enough of strolling and sightseeing? Crealy Great Adventure Park is the place to go if you and/or your children fancy letting out a few shrieks and running about to your heart’s content. Your circulation will certainly be in full swing afterwards!

Once you’ve boarded the train, you’ll reach the sea in 20 minutes. The famous Devon coast, with its waves (Britannia, rule the waves…), sweeping views and beaches, is the starting point for a whole host of activities, as well as relaxation with your family.

Of course, an evening visit to the pub is absolutely essential! Otherwise, you might as well not have been there at all! This is where young and old meet, and you’ll quickly strike up a conversation with people – for example, about rugby or football. The new Waterfront also offers a wide variety of restaurants where you can enjoy a meal, whether it’s an ice cream in the afternoon or a delicious pizza in the evening.

You can explore the wider areas around Exeter from a variety of perspectives or simply go wherever the mood takes you. There are historic, mystical destinations such as Stonehenge, Glastonbury or Tintagel Castle. In terms of scenery, there’s the famous Jurassic Coast – a significant site for fossil finds – as well as Dartmoor, which invites you to enjoy a wide variety of walks or pony rides (in Dartmoor). The gardens and parks, both large and small, throughout the surrounding area – such as Rosemoor Garden, Bictin Park and the Botanical Gardens, as well as the gardens at Powderham Castle – have their own charm in every season. From a literary perspective, the Greenway Estate, near Brixton on the English Riviera, is certainly of interest. Agatha Christie lived here with her husband, Max Mallowan, from 1938 onwards. Today it is owned by the National Trust. The garden, which borders the River Dart, is home to exotic plants.
