Images Impressions of St Paul’s Bay, Malta

Impressions of St Paul’s Bay, Malta

Malta is certainly not one of the largest islands in the Mediterranean. However, this makes the island’s proud and eventful history, which stretches back over 6,000 years, all the more remarkable. You and your family will have no trouble immersing yourselves in Malta’s past and wandering through the centuries.

When people think of Malta, they often think only of the famous Eurovision Song Contest, but they couldn’t be more wrong! Malta’s history stretches back a long way and has repeatedly had a profound influence on the Western world. You can feel this cultural influence time and again across the whole island, set against a charming landscape. Naturally, knights have left their mark on the island. The Apostle Paul himself is said to have evangelised the Maltese. In impressive museums, you can marvel at ancient armour, swords and cannons, amongst other things.

Among the culinary highlights in Malta is a Mediterranean classic: homemade goat’s cheese marinated in olive oil and pepper. If you’re up for it, there are goat farmers who’ll even let us tourists have a go at milking the goats ourselves. Then the cheese tastes even better! You just have to ask!!

A little more convenient – and perhaps not quite as spectacular at first glance – are the sandwiches at Café Jubilee. These cafés are very well-known and popular on the islands, and the sandwiches are simply delicious.

A boat trip from Mgarr Harbour to Comino, to the ‘Crystal Lagoon’, is one of the absolute highlights of a visit to the Maltese Islands. Huge rocks rising out of the sea, azure waters – simply marvellous! A day trip doesn’t get much better than this. The boat can stop at lots of spots where you can jump into the water and have a go at snorkelling. For divers, the ‘Crystal Lagoon’ in particular is a true paradise.

The neighbouring island of Gozo also has plenty to offer. The diving sites around the island are among the best and most beautiful in the whole of the Mediterranean. Another highlight: here on Gozo you’ll find the oldest surviving free-standing buildings in the world. The Ggantija Temples! They were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980. According to legend, a giantess is said to have built the structure in a single night whilst holding her child in her arms.

Generally speaking, the islands are extremely child-friendly and people are very easy-going when it comes to the little ones. This makes your family holiday here simply relaxing!

For the youngest age groups, the focus is on speaking and communicative activities centred on topics such as pets, clothes, jobs, the environment, colours and the alphabet. The young learners are introduced to the new language through storytelling, singing, nursery rhymes, drawing and art.

Older course participants and primary school children are already working on English grammar, vocabulary and correct pronunciation to develop their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in English.
