Our language school in Annecy is very centrally located, close to the old town, and offers modern classrooms and a warm, contemporary learning environment.
KLF Annecy – IFALPES is a private French language school in Annecy that specialises in Français Langue Étrangère (FLE). The school has been in existence for more than 30 years and is now part of the Keep Learning French (KLF) network.
The approach is very clearly geared towards language immersion. There are courses for adults and young learners, for both individuals and groups. In addition to the actual lessons, the school places great emphasis on cultural activities and on ensuring that students speak French outside the classroom too.
A major advantage is the international mix of participants. This means you meet people of different nationalities and have plenty of opportunities to actually use French as a common language. The school describes itself as rather small and personal.
The school is very centrally located at 3 Rue de Rumilly, just an 8-minute walk from the railway station and the historic old town. Particularly interesting: the school was renovated in 2026 and has been at this location since June 2026. The new premises span two floors and are said to be more modern, brighter and more comfortable.
This makes it a very attractive option for a language stay, as after lessons you can walk straight into the old town, down to the lake or into the cafés.

The nearest airport is Geneva, just about an hour’s drive from Annecy. There are plenty of direct flights to Geneva, including with easyJet, so Annecy is easy to get to. Other options include Lyon or, alternatively, Paris – from there you can take the train, making it a brilliant way to combine a visit to Paris with a trip to Annecy.
The heart of Annecy is the medieval Vieille Ville. Cobbled streets, narrow alleyways, arcades, pastel-coloured houses and small canals make it exceptionally picturesque. A stroll along the River Thiou is particularly lovely.
The most famous photo opportunity is the Palais de l’Île: a medieval building standing on a small rocky island in the middle of the river, which was in fact once a prison, a court and an administrative building.
Towering above it is the Château d’Annecy, the former residence of the Counts of Geneva. Today it houses a museum with exhibitions on regional history and the Alpine lakes.

The lake is probably the real highlight of Annecy. Its waters are renowned for their exceptional clarity and turquoise-blue colour, whilst the mountains rise up all around it. There are beaches, swimming areas, boat hire and plenty of opportunities for water sports.
The lakeside promenade is also very beautiful, featuring the Jardins de l’Europe and the Pont des Amours (‘Lovers’ Bridge’). Cyclists can explore large parts of the lake on cycle paths; there is also a walking route of around 43 km around the lake.
Annecy is ideal for a family holiday. The great thing about it is the mix of the lake, the mountains, the old town and plenty of activities, so you don’t have to constantly ‘tick off’ the sights when you’re with children.
🏊 1. Swimming in Lac d’Annecy
For me, this would be the number one activity in summer. The lake has clear, turquoise water and there are several beaches and swimming spots all around it. There are also pedalos, SUPs, kayaks and other water sports on offer.
It’s lovely, especially with children, to simply spend half a day by the lake without overloading the schedule.
🚤 2. A boat trip on the lake
A boat trip is a great way to experience the lake and the mountains from a different perspective. You can also hire a boat yourself – in some cases, you don’t even need a licence.

🏰 3. A little exploration tour of the old town
The Old Town itself is also interesting for children if you explore it in a playful way: canals, little bridges, narrow streets and the Palais de l’Île.

On the way up to the Semnoz lies the small Parc Animalier de la Grande Jeanne. There, children can watch various animals. A visit here can easily be combined with a trip up the Semnoz.

I’d definitely recommend doing this with children.
The Semnoz is only about 20 km from Annecy and offers a fantastic panoramic view over the Alps and Lake Annecy. In summer, attractions there include:

🌳 6. Climbing parks / adventure parks
For slightly older children, the tree-top adventure parks (climbing courses in the trees) are great fun. There are several such parks around Annecy. The tourist office specifically lists them as family activities.

Even when it rains, there’s no shortage of things to do in Annecy. Whether it’s La Turbine Sciences, the Musée du Film d’Animation or the Alpine Lakes Observatory, there are exhibitions and activities designed especially for children.

Leisure time activities
What makes Annecy so fascinating is the combination of town, lake and mountains. You can stroll through the medieval old town in the morning, sit by the lake or go for a swim at lunchtime, and head into the mountains or go for a hike in the afternoon. There are also small villages and castles dotted around the lake, such as the Château de Menthon-Saint-Bernard.
Annecy isn’t so much a town you visit for its major museums or spectacular nightlife. Its charm lies rather in itsatmosphere: water, mountains, French cafés, old alleyways and a beautifully maintained landscape. A great place for families.
