English Sports Camp
Weymouth and Portland are situated in the south-west of the county of Dorset on the Jurassic Coast, a 95-mile stretch of coastline that forms part of a World Heritage Site and is renowned for its breathtaking beaches and fossils. This beautiful county is full of rolling green fields and picturesque little towns.
Weymouth is conveniently situated near the county town of Dorchester, a historic town with numerous monuments, museums, shops, boutique cafés, lakes and wildlife to discover.
Whilst London, Oxford and Stonehenge – the major English attractions – are included in our excursion programme, you’ll also have the chance to visit local attractions such as the Purbecks, a breathtaking peninsula, or Durdle Door, a huge natural arch in the sea.
Weymouth has retained many of the characteristics of a traditional, authentically British coastal town. With amusement arcades, pedalos, donkey rides and a beautiful harbour, it offers a quintessentially British experience. For students visiting this friendly town, there is plenty to do and see. Weymouth is rich in history and architecture; from the Georgian splendour of Weymouth’s buildings to the Victorian Nothe Fort and the town’s historical significance in various wars, there is a wealth of history to discover.

English & sailing, windsurfing or outdoor adventures
Your course comprises 15 hours of English lessons (including a placement test and an introductory lesson) as well as 12 hours of sailing lessons per week. On Monday afternoons, evenings and Saturdays, we take part in the regular leisure programme together with the other students. English lessons take place from 9.00 am to 12.30 pm, Monday to Friday, whilst sailing/windsurfing lessons comprise 3 hours on 4 afternoons per week, from Tuesday to Friday. You’ll learn to sail or windsurf in English from professional instructors, and if the weather is too windy, you’ll take part in the leisure programme alongside the other students.
Sailing
Whether you’re a complete beginner or already have a little or a lot of experience, there’s a course to suit you. If you’re a complete beginner, you’ll start with the theoretical basics and then learn all the fundamental aspects of sailing, including ropes, rigging, launching, landing and wind awareness. By the end of the course, you’ll have a basic understanding of how a boat sails and will have gained some experience in steering and handling the boat. For participants with previous experience, the lessons are more advanced. At the end of the course, you will receive a certificate from the Royal Yachting Association, at least Level 1 of the Young Sailor’s Scheme.
Windsurfing
Whether you’re a complete beginner or already have some experience, there’s a course for you. Beginners start with the basics of getting into the water and sailing the board across the wind and back, before practising tacking and jibing along a course, which allows you to move towards and away from the wind. By the end of the course, you’ll be able to sail to a chosen point on the water in light winds and return to your starting point. For students with previous experience, the lessons are more advanced. Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a certificate from the Royal Yachting Association, at least Level 1 of the Youth Windsurfing Scheme.
Outdoor activities
Outdoor activities include mountain biking, climbing, paddling and kayaking, all of which take place in the Portland area – a natural paradise for anyone who loves the outdoors. The activities are led by highly experienced instructors who will help you learn new skills whilst having lots of fun. We can organise further activities for groups on request.
All ability levels are welcome, but for water-based activities you must be able to swim at least 25 metres. For your safety, you will be asked to wear flotation aids at all times whilst on the water. Please bring your swimming gear, a beach towel and beach shoes; all other equipment is provided by the outdoor adventure school, including bikes, helmets, climbing gear, wetsuits and flotation aids.
